I see so many lists in my RSS feeds showing what people like to use for their most frequent tasks on their mac. I’m kind of an app addict and I find myself constantly trying new apps to streamline everything I do. However, that kind of time sink is really only meant for losers like me so I’ll spare you the searches and give you my list of AWESOME apps I use every day.
Starting with….
AppZapper
The self proclaimed “Missing Installer for Mac” is actually much more than that. Drag an application onto it and it will find all the associated files nested in your OS that would normally just sit there taking up space. I’ve been able to fix problems with apps like Firefox and RipIt ;) with AppZapper too. How sick is that?!

Blogo
I’m using Blogo right now. The public release was posted a day or two ago and I can’t get enough of it. I can post to TypePad, Twitter, Ping.fm, Myspace, Facebook, Plurk and whatever other vehicle for my narcissistic tendencies I may decide to sign up for. The interface is amazingly intuitive and no other twitter app can match how well the twitter feed viewer is put together. Go try the trial right now before I slap you.

Coda
I love Panic.com’s software. Transmit is bar-none the best FTP application for Mac in my opinion. They’ve put together a single-window development application that lets you edit all sorts of code, preview and edit CSS without without a GUI. It even has the UNIX terminal and reference books built in. Oh yea… Transmit is also built into the sidebar so that pretty sweet too. If you’re working with multiple developers, Coda will also let you share a page and work on it with them simultaneously over Bonjour. Their website is also the BOMB. *nerdgasm*

OnyX
Think of Onyx as a GUI for the UNIX terminal for Mac OS X. Can’t even begin the list the uses for this. Go look at it for yourself and stop being so laaaazy.

Pacifist
Pacifist is a great way to get the good stuff from your installers without all the dumb stuff. A great example of what this app is great for is the time I was asked by my boss to see if I could get Mac OS X installed on a USB flash drive. I was able to slim a Tiger install down to 1.8 GB using Pacifist and with a few extra terminal one-liners, I had an iMac G5 booting from it and running Diskwarrior. Pretty snazzy huh?

Pixelmator
I’m a terrible terrible image editor. I use Paintbrush.app (the mac equivalent of Paint for Windows) as often as possible for adding text etc. to my images. However, there ARE times when I need something for the more complex image editing. I’m sure as hell not paying my right arm for the buggy and ill-supported Adobe software. Pixelmator is about $60 and does a lot of what Photoshop does. Plus it’s prettier and a little more intuitive for someone like me. This one is pure preference. I’d love to know what an actual pro-image editor thought. …Potpies?

Teleport
If you have multiple macs and don’t like using multiple keyboards, this is the BEST possible way for you to use a single keyboard and mouse to switch between multiple macs. It’s a simple preference pane that works a lot like the arrange tab in the Displays pane. Just drag the different computers into the arrangement you want and start dragging your mouse from screen to screen to control all the mac on your network. Now you have a software KVM switch for you mac! Crazy right? Even crazier is the fact that it’s free. While you’re at the developer’s site check out Soundfly which I also use pretty often.

Things
I’m addicted to things. Since I’m extremely ADD and constantly bombarded with help desk requests, I need a quick entry to-do application with tagging, sorting, project management etc. I recently started using Things beta (the full version will be released in January), and I am suddenly not as disorganized as I used to be. The best part is that the iPhone/iPod touch application syncs up with it over WiFi, so when I do that thing where I forget where I was going and what I was doing I can just fire up Things for iPhone and remember that somebody in Marketing says “the internets are broken” and I have to go plug the ethernet cable back in. Careful with this application though… it’s $50 so don’t get too addicted if you can’t shell out the cash.

Transmission
Ok this is a no brainer. If you’re on a mac and you’re still using Limewire for your torrents, you need to download Transmission right now and uninstall Limewire, or I’m coming to your house and stealing your computer once I roll off your mom.
Seriously though use this. Limewire is poison for the Mac. Transmission is light weight, pretty and simple. How can you go wrong downloading those torrents of Kim Kardashian’s cameos on the Ray-Jay porno hour, or Paris Hilton’s adventures in soul-less emotionless intercourse using a program as beautiful as this? You can’t… …That’s how.

So that’s that. Hope it was fun for you. I’m going to go watch some Hulu.com until I realize how ludicrous it is to bother paying for cable again.
