Today I’m going to start posting my weekly “messing with my computer” screenshots. I think I’ll call it “gratuitous picture of your desktop sunday” or GPOYDS. Yea, I made it an acronym because this is the internet and we do unnecessary things such as this.
This weekend I started working on getting my laptop organized. Inspired by Minimal Mac, I added FuzzyClock and Dateline. I also got rid of most of the icons in my dock and have decided to just use Quicksilver and stacks more often instead. I’ve whittled my dock down to these icons:
NetNewsWire - which now syncs with google reader. I’m still testing the new version to see if it will replace Eventbox for handling my RSS. So far so good.
Tumblr - I created a
Fluid instance for Tumblr which is bound to a desktop so I don’t lose it when I’m clicking around in Safari looking for links/chatting/etc. I also added a userscript to add dock badges to the icon when there are unread posts in my dashboard.
Tweetie for Mac - is my favorite twitter client. This is a staple of my dock because of how much I use twitter for various things.
SimpleTask - Finally, a simplified GTD app for keeping track of posts I want to write and things I need to accomplish. The iPhone client dropped a few days ago and syncing is coming in the next update.
Adium - custom icon with hacks from macthemes to make the buddy list and IM window a HUD theme.
For Stacks, I used drawers icons to keep them looking uniform. I’m using Hazel to keep my desktop cleaned up and to keep the downloads stack to a minimum. I added:
Server - Mac OS X Leopard server administration applications.
DownloadsDocumentsLyrics - a quick way to list off the .txt files I keep my lyrics in for quick browsing when I have a chord progression to put to them.
The Social - A folder full of other social networking fluid instances like Digg, Flickr and Facebook.
Dropbox - quick access to my dropbox folder from
getdropbox.com
